The Aquadopp HR Profilers (“High Resolution”) by Nortek allow current profiles to be obtained in layers just a few millimetres thick. The instrument is the well-known Aquadopp Profiler 1 MHz or Aquadopp Profiler 2 MHz, equipped with high-performance HR firmware. The Aquadopp Profiler HR is designed for boundary layer studies a few metres above the seabed and in low-energy environments such as estuaries, lakes, or bays. With this instrument, it is possible to observe phenomena that cannot be detected with other Doppler profilers.

This Nortek profiler offers the flexibility of having both a standard profiler and a high-resolution instrument on the same platform. The HR firmware implements processing techniques known as coherent pulse processing. This makes it possible to sample layers as thin as 0.7 cm or at sampling rates of up to 8 Hz. The HR profiler is an ideal tool for bottom boundary layer studies, the generation of internal waves in lakes, under-ice measurements, and any situation involving quasi-laminar flows.
