The new generation of DWR4 wave buoys by Datawell BV incorporates an acoustic current meter within the buoy hull. The wave sensor is based on a stabilised platform with an accelerometer, suitable for measuring waves in the 1.0 to 30 second range with an accuracy of 0.5% of the measured value.

It features data processing at twice the speed of previous versions, shifting the high-frequency signal limit from 0.58 to 1.0 Hz. As a result, it is the hydrodynamic response of the hull that determines the true detectable frequency limit, rather than the signal processing itself. The DWR4 offers several transmission options, as well as optional power supply via the proven solar panel ring and capacitors integrated into the hatch cover. This buoy is available exclusively in the 90 cm format.
