Buoy equipped with a mechanical wave sensor based on a stabilised platform, with accelerometers and a magnetic compass.

The well-known DWR MKIII wave buoy (Directional Waverider MKIII) by Datawell BV is suitable for measuring waves in the 1.6 to 30 second range, with an accuracy of 0.5%. Data transmission is available via radio link (up to 50 km), GSM, or satellite (global). It features an internal processor, internal memory, and an LED flashing light integrated into the antenna. The power system relies on alkaline batteries, with an optional solar system to minimise or eliminate battery consumption. The buoy is manufactured in AISI 316 stainless steel or Cunifer. Typical autonomy ranges from 1 to 3 years.
