The SAIV A/S APB5 buoy (Automatic Profiling Buoy) is designed to monitor water quality in coastal areas, fjords, lakes and fish farms by carrying out automated profiling (75–150 m). It incorporates a control unit, web server, GSM/GPRS/EDGE router or satellite communication (IMARSAT/Iridium), as well as a motorised winch, wireless link for buoy–SD208 probe communication, solar power supply, meteorological station and ADCP (the latter two optional). The system can be programmed remotely by the user, and received data can be accessed remotely. Take advantage of the absence of biofouling on the CTD probe sensors, as they remain dry inside the buoy during the periods between profiles.
