Activities carried out in the marine environment in general, and in coastal areas in particular, are numerous and complex, placing significant environmental pressure on these ecosystems. This situation leads, among other things, to the presence of industrial and urban effluents, as well as incidents arising from shipping and port activities. As a result, a large proportion of our waste ultimately ends up in the ocean, via both land-based and atmospheric pathways. For this reason, the range of sensors and systems for the detection and measurement of contaminants in the marine environment continues to expand.
