Underwater Communication
At present, the most commonly used means for underwater communications are cables and acoustic modems. Cables are often an ideal solution—provided local conditions allow—for relatively short distances (a few hundred metres), as they are reliable, fast and secure. However, in some cases a cable may not be suitable, for example when information needs to be transmitted over long distances or where there is a risk of trawling or dragging. In such situations, acoustic modems offer a high-quality alternative. INNOVA Oceanografía Litoral supplies acoustic modems from Teledyne Benthos.
