The measurement and prediction of tides are areas of interest for scientists and professionals working in research centres, consultancies, engineering firms and various authorities, among others. There are several methods for measuring tides:
– “From below”: studying the cyclical variation of hydrostatic pressure in the water column, using pressure sensors and/or tide gauges; analysis of water flows driven by tides using current meters or profilers.
– “From above”: studying records of the free sea surface level through the use of non-intrusive vertical aerial systems.
